Medical Instrument Education

Happy Jack Software was contracted in 2022 to develop a simple-to-use, mobile-friendly, web-based platform aimed at simplifying the learning of medical instrumentation, including customizable self-education drills. The solution is a web-based medical instrument learning and evaluation platform.

The platform provides a learning module where students can learn the material and an evaluation module where instructors can quiz and test students on their knowledge of medical instruments. The platform gathers the quiz and test results at a granular level to support statistical analysis by instructors, institutions, and administrators. A reporting module allows raw data to be downloaded and provides predefined tabular and chart reports by date, course, instructor, class/section, and/or student.

HJS designed the platform to support multiple languages and to work seamlessly on mobile devices. The centralized database allows editors to define instruments and upload high-resolution images to build the instrument library.  Due to the proprietary nature of the high resolution images, HJS developed the automated process of resizing, watermarking, and displaying images so that the images can be magnified but yet not be easily copied from the web page.  Multiple views of the instrument are offered to help students learn the minute details of each instrument.

Virtual Education Registration

HJS was contracted in 2016 to create a web application to allow K-12 students and parents to search for virtual distance education classes and request pre-registration. Additionally, the site allows districts to express interest in the development of virtual courses and for providers to respond. The project was completed in conjunction with another similar project to reuse as much code as possible.

As specifications required, the web application is a customized WordPress implementation that uses both custom and pre-existing WordPress plugins to allow for course imports, course searches, and search reporting.  The backend of the site allows for course and pre-registration management based on various roles.  Site administrators can create district users, manage district survey requests and responses, search pre-registration requests, edit website page content, and import class data.  District coordinators can edit users with their district, search and view pre-registrations for their district, and receive notifications when pre-registration requests are submitted.

Pre-registration information contains student details that must be kept secure.  As such, the site was designed to use SSL during transactions and to encrypt student information in the database.  Only authorized users can view the pre-registration data in the system. The site is an HTML5/CSS3 template that conforms to 508 accessibility standards.
